Decorative does not mean decorative-only. A stamped slab earns the same structural build as a plain one: a base cut through the caliche, conditioned clay under it, a rebar grid, and an air-entrained mix for the freeze-thaw. A good-looking finish laid over a base that was rushed does not last on ground that moves like this.
We bring physical samples so you choose against your own brick and trim outdoors, not off a screen. Integral color mixed through the slab plus a release color gives a depth a thin surface tint cannot, which counts under a high-plains sun that pulls cheap color pale in a hurry.
Stamping is a timing job, and at Lubbock's elevation the dry air can stiffen a slab quickly. We size the crew to the pour so the mats go in evenly from the first one to the last, corners and edges included, while the concrete is still right for it.
Hand-work along the edges and the grout lines, then accent color where the pattern asks for it. This is the step that decides whether stamped concrete reads like real stone or reads like a rubber mat, so it does not get hurried.
We seal once the slab is ready and leave you a plain resealing schedule. Between the strong sun, the blowing grit, and the freeze-thaw, the sealer is what keeps year five looking like year one, and a reseal every couple of years brings the color back when it dulls.

Stamped work on the South Plains generally opens around $14 to $22 a square foot, above plain concrete because of the added color, the stamping labor, and the sealing. Pattern, the number of colors, and access all move it, so we price after seeing the space in person rather than guessing over the phone.
Unsealed, over time, yes; the high-plains sun is hard on color. Integral color fades far slower than a surface-only tint, which is why we mix it through the slab, and a reseal every two to three years keeps the finish deep. We will not sell it as maintenance-free, because nothing out in this sun and wind is.
It can, if the slab was not built for it. We use an air-entrained mix under the pattern so the freeze-thaw has somewhere to go, and a quality sealer sheds the melt water. Go light on de-icing salt on a stamped surface the weeks it snows, rinse it off afterward, and the finish holds.
A sealed smooth pattern can be, wet or iced over. On walks, steps, and pool decks we work a traction additive into the sealer or steer you toward a more textured pattern. Tell us where it is going and we spec it for grip, which counts on the handful of icy mornings a Lubbock winter brings.
Yes, with honest caveats. It needs the same thickness and steel as any drive, hot tires are hard on the sealer, and a stamped border or band often delivers the look at lower cost and upkeep than stamping the whole field. We will lay both options out for you.
Overlays exist, but on Lubbock's moving clay we rarely recommend one; the overlay inherits every crack and movement problem underneath it. If the base slab is failing, replacing it and stamping the fresh pour costs more once and looks right for years, and we would rather tell you that up front.
